Allston is a part of Boston Massachusetts. According to census figures over half of the population of Allston is aged 20-34 which is a clear indication of the strong college student presence.
Allston is the only locale in the United States named for an artist - Washington Allston. The many musicians and music venues have given rise to the nickname "Allston Rock City."
The busiest part of Allston is the stretch of Harvard Avenue between Commonwealth Avenue and Cambridge Street. It is here where you will find most of the shops, bars and restaurants. Close to downtown Boston, Allston is an excellent option for those on a budget who don't mind a little noise!
For a little less noise or action, head a few "T" stops outbound towards the intersections of Allston St. and Commonwealth Ave.
Lower Allston is an ideal spot for those looking for a little "more bang for their buck" as well as commuters, with its easy and free street parking, not to mention its close proximity to Storrow Drive, the Mass Pike and Rt.2 as well as Cambridge and Downtown Boston. The Lower Allston neighborhood is comprised mostly of young professionals and families, very similar to Oak Square.
WEST CAMPUS is a choice location for Boston University students. Popular streets include Pratt, Ashford and Gardner and extend to Harvard Ave and the intersection of Brighton Ave and Commonwealth Avenus, also known as PACKARDS CORNER.
UNION SQUARE is located near the intersections of Cambridge and North Beacon Street. Here you'll get more space for your money in exchange for a longer (15 min.) walk to the 'T'.
